Haunting upright bass keeps the heartbeat of "Get Tired" while the rolling piano lends to the heart felt lyrics in this retelling of the very first, first hand account of an enslaved women freed in the United Kingdom. Her story is not only powerful in the telling but also in the culmination of Mary Prince being able to take her captors to court which was and still is unheard of. She is a formidable human and was honored in 2020 with her very own post humous National Holiday as a Bermudian. This song in its entirety is "Get Tired (Fight: The Mary Prince Song)".
With the aid of the trombone, shakers, tambourines and a jamming piano "Gold" hearkens back to the days when the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin demanded Respect. The song begs for a call and response and will get you dancing and singing along despite your best efforts to be demure.
It was written and produced by Joy T Barnum; Bermuda's 2006 Vocalist of the Year, 2020's Rock Singer of the Year and 1st Runner up in the first Bermuda Idol judged by Producer NoID of Chicago. Gold celebrates the win of Bermudian Flora Duffy in the 2021 Tokyo Games for the Triathalon as well as highlights her predecessors to become the tiniest Nation to win GOLD!
